At TICO, we believe that a healthy community is an empowered community. However, for many young people particularly young women, vulnerable groups accessing accurate information and quality health services remains a significant hurdle.
That is why the Inclusive Health Program stands as a core pillar of TICO’s commitment to building informed, resilient, and thriving communities across Rwanda. Through a blend of community-driven support and innovative technology, we are bridging the gap between youth and the health resources they deserve.
The Challenge: Overcoming Barriers to Care
In Rwanda, young people navigating their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) often face complex challenges. Stigma, limited access to youth-friendly services, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and growing mental health concerns can deeply affect a young person's social and economic potential.
To create lasting change, we recognized that we needed a multi-faceted approach. By combining capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and targeted outreach, TICO is creating safe, supportive environments where young people can make informed decisions about their health and futures.
Community First: The Power of Self-Health Groups
Real change starts at the grassroots level. Under our Health Inclusion Program, TICO successfully launched Self-Health Groups, a transformative, community-based approach designed to improve collective well-being.
These groups do more than just share information; they build solidarity. By fostering a peer-support network, participants are equipped with the practical tools and knowledge they need to take ownership of their health. It is a space where preventative care and inclusive health awareness become shared community values.

Innovation in Action: Meet the Ikirezi Digital Chatbot
While community support is vital, we also recognize the need for privacy, accessibility, and modern solutions. One of TICO’s proudest initiatives this year is the development and launch of the Ikirezi Digital Chatbot.

Powered by artificial intelligence, Ikirezi is a 24/7 digital companion designed to provide reliable, stigma-free information on:
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
- Gender-Based Violence (GBV) resources and referral pathways
- Mental health support
By putting critical health information directly into the hands of youth via their digital devices, Ikirezi represents our commitment to technology-driven health solutions. Recently showcased to partners and external visitors, the chatbot has already proven to be a vital step forward in making SRHR information safe and accessible for everyone.
Looking Ahead
TICO remains deeply committed to empowering Rwanda's youth. Whether it is through the solidarity of a Self-Health Group or a confidential conversation with the Ikirezi Chatbot, we are building a future where no young person is left in the dark about their health, their rights, and their well-being.
