As young people continue to seek sustainable pathways for development, the Youth Entrepreneurial Design Fellowship (EDF) is proving to be a powerful tool in equipping them with practical skills and confidence to create their own opportunities.
Among the participants of the EDF cohort 3 is Igiraneza Peace, whose story highlights how knowledge and determination can transform lives.
After completing the training, Peace initiated five kitchen gardens at her home, where she grows a variety of vegetables and fruits, including cabbage and other produce. This initiative not only supports her family’s daily nutrition but also allows her to sell surplus produce at the market, generating income.
Peace, a student at UTABU University pursuing studies in education, shared that before joining EDF, she had never considered starting a project. However, the training broadened her mindset and inspired her to think creatively and proactively about solving problems around her.
She explained:
“At the end of the training, I felt uncertain about how I would start my project since I had no capital. But by reflecting on the knowledge and skills I gained from EDF, I found solutions within myself and started small. Today, I have made meaningful progress.”

Peace later launched her initiative, the “Green Basket Project,” which aims to combat malnutrition, create employment opportunities, and reduce poverty within her community. She now plans to expand the project beyond her local area by introducing innovative farming practices and increasing production.
Despite facing challenges such as limited startup capital, Peace credits EDF for giving her the resilience and problem-solving skills needed to overcome obstacles and move forward.

Her parents also testify to the transformation they have witnessed. They note that before the training, Peace had ordinary ideas, but afterward, she returned with a clear vision and immediately began implementing practical solutions like establishing kitchen gardens and pursuing agricultural development.

They encourage organizers to expand such training opportunities to reach more young people, emphasizing their importance in fostering self-reliance and innovation among youth.
EDF continues to stand out as a catalyst for youth empowerment, turning ideas into action and contributing to sustainable community development.
